The Real Dirt: A Podcast
That’s right folks, we’re recording audio as we cook in the kitchens of local food mavens. . . lip smacking and all!
We want to explore the passion, practicality, and personality behind local food. Join us!
Why?
To learn what makes local food mavens tick. What got them passionate? What keeps them coming back to the stove? What keeps it fresh?
To further spread what can be life-changing (at least, life in the kitchen) tricks that make seasonal eating accessible. It can be the smallest of routines that make the greatest difference in whether you eat that bunch of mustards or let it wilt.
To connect with each other over food! Always and forever.
To keep it simple, to explore kitchens that are not white marble halls, but practical functional spaces where local food is made, put up, and loved hard.
Who?
Your hosts will be:
Alexandra Brown, Community Education Coordinator
Alexandra took on the role of Community Education Coordinator following two years of farming at River Road. She attended the University of Montana, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Environmental Studies, worked on multiple small-scale farms, and received her certificate in permaculture design. Her time farming fostered a love of cooking, preserving and sharing food. She apprenticed under a master preserver and taught fermentation workshops through the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Her mission as Community Education Coordinator is to honor our local farmers and food system by empowering individuals to grow and eat local food. Her favorite fermented food is kimchi, with all other ferments taking a close second.
Genevieve Jessop Marsh, Outreach and Impact Director
Genevieve fell in love with sustainable agriculture in Vermont, and studied the subject in Missoula, Montana where she earned her Master’s of Science while Missoula wormed its way into her heart. She’s a food writer, Garden City Harvest blog originator, and long time garden dabbler. She’ll be editing, co-hosting, and learning with listeners as we go!
