Is summer finally here? Or was that a hailstone that just dropped on my head?

Well, it seemed like summer was upon us here in Missoula.  It was hot, sunny, good swimming weather, but then Saturday and Tuesday came along with hail again.  Luckily it wasn’t too severe, so no damaged crops at the PEAS Farm.

Despite the inconsistent weather we have seen amazing plant growth over the last week or so, especially with cucurbits (aka the squash family, including zucchini, pumpkins, cucumbers, melons, gourds, and winter squash) and tomatoes.  Why you ask?  Well, we finally got some consistent heat – squashes and tomatoes, and corn, beans, peppers and eggplants as well, love heat! Especially when the it sticks around for a while.  So, keep your fingers crossed for sunny, warm days (although I think we are in store for many over the next few months).

This weeks CSA will feature more vegetable deliciousness including zucchini, radishes, carrots, kohlrabi, scallions, chard, kale, and lettuce.  The days of being loaded down with greens are over!  I know you will all miss the bok choy and broccoli raab, but soon, as early as next week, there will be broccoli and maybe even some cauliflower and peas!   So enjoy those radishes and kohlrabi now, they may be the last you see for a while. . .
